Interesting. I always like to see Madrid come a cropper.
Something to do with their Harlem Globetrotters-like signing policy and all the league titles they got from Franco's cronies nobbling Barcelona. more…

Hey BaLiis, long time no comment. How you doing? Keep the chin up - Scotland were really good in the second half against Macedonia. Tomorrow night? You never know. more…

Even the best teams can improve. As good as a particular style might look, if a team is not versatile and adaptable and does the same thing often enough and get stale about it, someone is going to come along with the answer. more…

Hi Chris,
Rankin is from a wee toun in darkest Fife, where the colours are very fine indeed. I doubt very much if he is a Fenian in any sense of the word.
Also, just to clarify, I'm not personally sure if Rankin needs to apologise for this comment. The "Apology required please, Ian" is a mere link to the view of fans on h more…

Rankin, yer daft Fenian, apologies due to the Orange marchers, all forgiven then, eh, bhoy? (Nae bother). A tad surprised, myself, that yer man should be drawn into this sectarian shite - thought him the best 'thriller' writer for years, and apart from making Rebus a 'Hibbie' never detected -ahem - any tribal rubbish in his books. Or, indeed, in t more…

Spot on VFM with your last sentence. It would be nice to see some progress being made in Scotland.

I agree with everything you have written. The same thing comes up time and time again. The media are scared to properly criticise the clubs because as soon as they do they become embroiled in the whole circus with each side wheeling out "their" politicians making allegations the other way etc. Considering the progress that has been made in North more…

I see that they're actually planning on changing the UEFA cup so that the early rounds are 4 team leagues like the Champions League. more…

Wouldn't argue with either of those views, Phil. Being rewarded for a defeat in one competition with a bye into the later rounds of another is quite bizarre. more…

They should make it into a proper cup or get rid of the seedings so that the big teams or teams from the same countries get put together. Teams shouldn't drop into the UEFA cup either. Once you've lost you should be out. more…

Ayr were a decent side in the seventies when I started watching. Ally Macleod and all that. I'd like to see Ayr waking up. The SPL is always desperately in need of fresh new blood. more…

Agreed; even as an occasional visitor to 'Parkheid', I find the Champions League rather predictable, hence dull (although the hoops do have a touch of the 'underdog' amongst that class.) The UEFA Cup offers a little more opportunity for an 'upset', rather like the FA Cup (much devalued, these days).
And the Big 4 of the English Premiershite more…

Nottingham Forest fans - of which I am one - sing "Never felt more like singin' the blues, when Nottingham win and Derby lose.." I have attempted to explain to fellow frequenters of the Trent End that this should be "LESS like singin' the blues, etc". To no avail. Thought you might like to know that. more…

Brasil has Flamengo, and lots of the better players in football history. Just like Zico.
And good fans! Jorge Benjor is one of them.
This music is dedicated to "Fio Maravilha", something like "wonderful son", but this video use Zico images.

Stewart's was an interesting story, exceedingly well told by his son Gary Imlach in the excellent "My Father and other Working Class Heroes".
Much loved in Nottingham as Forest's speedy outside-left, the local fans nicknamed him "Rabbit" due to his pace up and down the left flank. Perhaps Stewart's finest hour was in the 1958 FA Cup Fi more…
